The Delhi government’s Budget for 2026-27 sets aside a substantial share for capital expenditure, underlining a renewed focus on building and upgrading urban infrastructure while aligning spending with environmental priorities.
Out of a total outlay of ₹1.03 lakh crore, about ₹30,799 crore has been earmarked for capital projects. Roads, flyovers and urban transport corridors form a core part of this allocation, alongside investments aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility across the city.
A notable feature of the budget is the emphasis on green spending, with roughly one fifth of the outlay linked to environmental initiatives. Among the key proposals is an allocation of ₹1,500 crore for cleaning the Yamuna, a long standing challenge that successive governments have struggled to address.
The government has also indicated plans to expand and upgrade existing road networks, develop new corridors and improve public infrastructure in rapidly growing parts of the city. These measures are expected to support both daily commuting needs and future urban expansion.
The budget signals an attempt to balance infrastructure creation with sustainability goals, as the capital grapples with air pollution, traffic congestion and pressure on civic services. The scale of capital spending suggests the government is seeking to accelerate project execution while positioning green infrastructure as a central element of urban policy.
