The decision to set up two new 33/11 kV substations along the Noida Expressway reflects the mounting pressure on urban power infrastructure in one of the National Capital Region’s fastest growing corridors.
The substations, proposed in Sectors 151 and 155 at an estimated cost of about ₹20 crore, are part of a wider effort to augment electricity distribution capacity in areas witnessing rapid residential and industrial expansion. Authorities have also indicated parallel upgrades in transformer capacity across the city to address rising demand.
Over the past few years, Noida’s growth has been driven by a combination of real estate development, industrial activity and improved connectivity. This expansion has brought with it a steady increase in peak load, exposing the limitations of existing infrastructure during periods of high consumption.
Officials maintain that the additional substations will help stabilise supply, reduce outages and improve voltage conditions, particularly in newly developed sectors. The move is also aimed at supporting upcoming housing projects and commercial establishments that depend on reliable power.
The challenge, however, lies in keeping infrastructure expansion in step with the pace of urbanisation. Delays in capacity addition often translate into service disruptions that affect both households and businesses. Strengthening distribution networks, therefore, remains as critical as expanding generation capacity in addressing the needs of growing cities.
