The proposed PM MITRA textile park in Lucknow is being positioned as a cornerstone of the Centre’s effort to build integrated manufacturing clusters, with an investment of around ₹990 crore and a planned spread of nearly 1,000 acres.
Envisaged as a plug-and-play ecosystem, the park will bring together the entire textile value chain within a single, well-serviced zone. Infrastructure such as internal roads, power supply, water facilities and logistics links will be developed to support units ranging from spinning and weaving to processing and garment manufacturing.
Officials say the project is expected to generate up to three lakh jobs, while also strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position in the textile sector. Its location near existing transport networks is seen as a key advantage, particularly for exporters seeking faster access to markets.
The park is part of a broader national push under the PM MITRA scheme, which aims to create large-scale textile hubs across the country. The underlying idea is to move away from fragmented production towards integrated clusters that can deliver scale, efficiency and cost competitiveness.
The challenge, however, lies in execution. Ensuring timely land acquisition, attracting anchor investors and building reliable infrastructure will be critical to the project’s success. Much like earlier industrial cluster initiatives, the gap between announcement and on-ground delivery will determine whether the model can deliver sustained gains for the sector.
