Mumbai Port Authority has announced an ambitious development pipeline comprising 63 infrastructure projects worth ₹5,028.17 crore, marking one of its biggest investment programmes in recent years. The announcement was made during the port’s 154th Foundation Day celebrations, highlighting the Centre’s continued focus on modernising India’s maritime infrastructure and strengthening port-led economic growth.
The extensive portfolio includes seven projects worth ₹132.29 crore that were inaugurated during the event, 34 projects valued at ₹1,354.59 crore for which foundation stones were laid, and 22 new projects worth ₹3,541.29 crore that have been announced for future implementation. Together, these initiatives aim to improve operational efficiency, expand logistics capacity and transform Mumbai Port into a modern and sustainable maritime hub.
The planned projects cover a wide range of sectors, including port infrastructure, waterfront redevelopment, cargo handling facilities, logistics improvements and operational modernisation. Authorities believe these investments will strengthen Mumbai Port’s position as a key gateway for trade while supporting the government’s long term vision of creating world class maritime infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said Mumbai Port has played a vital role in India’s maritime history for more than 150 years and continues to remain central to the country’s economic development. He said the latest investments reflect the government’s commitment to improving logistics efficiency, expanding coastal shipping, promoting cruise tourism and creating new economic opportunities through modern port infrastructure.
Alongside the project announcements, two important agreements were also dedicated. These include the Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance Agreement and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Agreement. The agreements are expected to improve port operations, optimise the use of existing assets and accelerate waterfront development across the Mumbai Port estate.
Several flagship initiatives already under development are expected to benefit from the new investment programme. These include the International Cruise Terminal, ferry jetty projects, Jawahar Dweep reclamation works and energy infrastructure projects. Together, they are designed to improve passenger services, enhance cargo movement and support India’s wider Blue Economy ambitions.
The Mumbai Marina project, one of the most anticipated waterfront developments, is expected to create a modern marina capable of accommodating hundreds of yachts while adding tourism, hospitality and recreational facilities to the city’s eastern waterfront. Officials believe the project will help position Mumbai as a leading destination for maritime tourism alongside its role as a major commercial port.
The announcement comes as India continues to invest heavily in port modernisation under national programmes aimed at improving connectivity, reducing logistics costs and increasing global trade competitiveness. With the latest ₹5,028 crore pipeline, Mumbai Port Authority is expected to play an even greater role in supporting trade, investment and sustainable economic growth in the years ahead.
