Adani Airport Holdings will invest more than ₹20,000 crore to develop airport cities at six airports across India. The project has been under planning for several years, and with approvals now in place, work is set to move forward. The development will cover more than 655 acres of land and create around 22 million square feet of commercial space. The airport cities will be built at Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati airports.
Around 70 per cent of the total investment will be spent on the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airport projects. These two airports are expected to become major centres for business, travel and commercial activity. The remaining investment will be used to develop airport cities at the other four airports, helping improve infrastructure and economic activity in those regions.
The airport cities will include hotels, office spaces, retail shops, restaurants, convention centres and entertainment facilities. These developments are designed to make airports more than just places where people catch flights. Instead, they will become centres for business, shopping, hospitality and leisure, serving both travellers and local communities.
The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities during construction and after completion. It is also likely to attract more businesses, investors and tourists to the cities where the airport developments are taking place. As commercial activity increases, local businesses are expected to benefit from greater demand for goods and services.
Better roads, metro links and transport connections will also be developed around the airport cities. Improved connectivity will make it easier for passengers, employees and businesses to travel to and from the airports. The airport cities will follow modern architectural designs and include sustainable infrastructure, with a focus on efficient use of space, energy and resources.
The investment is expected to improve passenger facilities while supporting the long-term economic growth of the surrounding regions. Modern commercial developments around airports are becoming an important part of aviation infrastructure, helping airport operators generate additional revenue while offering more services to passengers.
India’s aviation sector has been growing rapidly in recent years, with increasing numbers of domestic and international passengers. This growth has encouraged airport operators to invest not only in expanding terminals and runways but also in developing commercial infrastructure around airports. Airport cities have become a popular model in many countries, combining transport, business and urban development in one location.
The project is expected to support long-term urban development and strengthen India’s aviation infrastructure. It is being regarded as one of the largest private investments in the country’s airport sector. Once completed, the airport cities are expected to improve passenger experience, create new business opportunities and contribute to the development of modern urban centres around India’s major airports. The investment also reflects the growing importance of airports as drivers of economic growth, employment and regional development, while supporting India’s ambition to build world-class aviation infrastructure for the future.
