Air India has achieved a significant operational milestone by securing the fourth position globally for on-time performance (OTP) among major airlines in June 2026, according to the latest report by aviation analytics firm Cirium.
The Tata Group-owned carrier recorded an on-time arrival rate of 83.2%, placing it behind only three international airlines in the global rankings. The achievement reflects Air India’s continued efforts to improve operational reliability as it undergoes one of the largest transformation programmes in the aviation industry.
The improved ranking comes as the airline continues to modernise its fleet, streamline ground operations, optimise flight scheduling and invest in digital technologies aimed at enhancing passenger experience. These measures have played a key role in reducing delays and improving overall network efficiency across domestic and international routes.
Air India’s operational performance has steadily improved over the past year despite increasing passenger demand, airport congestion and weather-related disruptions during the monsoon season. The airline has also focused on strengthening coordination between airport teams, maintenance operations and flight crews to ensure greater schedule adherence.
Cirium’s monthly on-time performance report is regarded as one of the aviation industry’s most respected benchmarks. The rankings evaluate airlines based on the percentage of flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, using extensive global flight tracking data.
The recognition comes during a period of rapid expansion for India’s aviation sector, with airlines increasing capacity, adding new international routes and inducting next-generation aircraft to meet rising travel demand. Air India has been at the forefront of this expansion following its record aircraft order and ongoing investments in fleet renewal and customer service improvements.
Industry experts believe consistent operational performance is becoming increasingly important as airlines compete for customer loyalty in both domestic and international markets. Improved punctuality not only enhances passenger satisfaction but also strengthens airline efficiency by reducing operational disruptions and associated costs.
As Air India continues its long-term transformation journey, maintaining strong on-time performance will remain a critical indicator of its operational success and competitiveness on the global stage.
