India’s digital infrastructure push received a major boost as RMZ and Colt Data Centres announced plans to invest ₹1.77 lakh crore in a 1.25 GW hyperscale data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project is among the largest private investments in India’s data centre sector and reflects the country’s growing position as a global digital infrastructure hub.
The proposed facility will be developed at Anandapuram in Visakhapatnam and is expected to support the increasing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, enterprise data storage and digital services. With businesses rapidly shifting towards AI-powered operations and cloud platforms, the need for high-capacity data centres has grown significantly across India.
The planned campus will have a total capacity of 1.25 GW, making it one of the country’s biggest hyperscale data centre developments. Such facilities are designed to accommodate large technology companies, cloud service providers and enterprises requiring secure and scalable computing infrastructure.
The investment also highlights Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to emerge as a preferred destination for digital infrastructure. Visakhapatnam has gained attention due to its strategic coastal location, improving connectivity, access to international submarine cable networks and supportive government policies aimed at attracting technology investments. These factors are expected to strengthen the city’s appeal for future digital and technology projects.
India’s data centre market has witnessed strong momentum over the past few years, supported by rapid internet adoption, expansion of digital payment systems, rising consumption of online content and increasing enterprise digitisation. The emergence of artificial intelligence has further accelerated demand for computing power and secure data storage facilities.
Industry reports show that data centres are becoming one of the fastest-growing real estate asset classes in India. Private equity investors have also increased their exposure to the segment, recognising its long-term growth potential alongside office, residential and logistics assets. Data centres accounted for the largest share of private equity inflows during the second quarter of 2026, reflecting strong investor confidence in the sector.
For the infrastructure ecosystem, projects of this scale create demand across multiple industries, including power infrastructure, renewable energy, construction, cooling systems, telecom connectivity and facility management. Large campuses also generate employment during both construction and operational phases while supporting the wider digital economy.
As India continues to position itself as a global technology and innovation hub, investments in hyperscale digital infrastructure are expected to play a central role in meeting future demand. The RMZ and Colt partnership marks another significant milestone in the country’s expanding digital infrastructure landscape and reinforces investor confidence in India’s long-term technology growth story.
