Amazon is the only online delivery service to have shipped more than 55 crore products to Prime members in India on the same day or the next day in 2025. As 2026 comes to an end, this represents a 40% increase from the previous year. To support its fast delivery service, Amazon has built a large network of fulfilment centres, sorting centres and delivery stations. The company uses AI and technology to make deliveries faster and safer, while GPS and advanced logistics systems help track packages throughout the delivery process.
Amazon can deliver to every serviceable PIN code in India and claims to deliver some packages within minutes through Amazon Now. The service uses small micro-fulfilment centres located close to customers. Amazon now plans to expand Amazon Now to more than 300 cities. The service could also help more than 16,000 farmers sell fresh products directly to customers.
Amazon also plans to build more than 100 Urban Fulfilment Centres. These larger facilities will offer a wider range of products and help speed up deliveries. The delivery giant has more than 43 million square feet of storage space across 16 states.
The company also has more than 3 million square feet of sorting space and nearly 2,000 last-mile delivery stations. Amazon has worked with India Post since 2013. This partnership helps the company reach towns and villages through more than 150,000 post offices. Amazon also works with Indian Railways to transport packages across the country. More than 120 trains now operate on 130 intercity routes connected to Amazon’s network.
Amazon launched Amazon Air in India in 2023. The service uses cargo planes to move products quickly between cities. Amazon Air connects cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Guwahati and Pune.
In 2026, Amazon expanded its air cargo network in Northeast India. The network now connects all seven states in the Northeast, helping improve delivery speeds in the region. Air transport can reduce transit times by up to five times on some routes.
Amazon also uses AI at multiple stages of the delivery process. Inside fulfilment centres, AI helps workers find products more quickly. It also helps Amazon manage warehouse space and inventory, while identifying faster delivery routes.
AI systems also help distribute delivery tasks more fairly among workers. Amazon uses AI to understand unstructured addresses, which can help delivery workers locate difficult destinations more accurately.
Amazon is also working to make its deliveries more environmentally friendly in collaboration with IIT Roorkee. The project focuses on converting agricultural waste into sustainable packaging, providing an alternative to plastic packaging.
The company is also testing electric heavy-duty trucks. One pilot project is running on the 350-km Bengaluru-Chennai route.
Amazon says worker safety is a major part of its operations. Workers receive benefits such as Provident Fund (PF), Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) benefits and insurance. The company also provides medical and rest facilities at many locations.
Delivery workers have 24/7 access to safety support. Emergency assistance and ambulance services are available through partners in more than 730 cities. Vehicles are inspected before delivery trips. During extreme weather, workers receive safety alerts and additional break time.
Amazon’s Sammaan programme supports delivery workers and their families. It includes education scholarships, improved insurance and rest facilities.
Amazon plans to expand its Ashray rest centres to 250 by the end of 2026. Its Samriddhi programme helps workers and communities access government benefits, while the Pratidhi programme provides scholarships for workers’ children from Class 3 to Class 12.
In 2025, Amazon invested ₹2,000 crore in its India operations. It has announced another ₹2,800 crore investment for 2026. The company’s main goal is to make deliveries faster, safer, wider and more reliable across India.
