India is spending more on infrastructure than ever before. New highways, railway lines, airports and ports are improving travel time and boosting trade. The government says these projects will create jobs and strengthen the economy. At the same time, India’s railway network is undergoing a major transformation. More railway lines are being electrified, more Vande Bharat trains are being introduced, and new stations, bridges and safety systems are being added. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence (AI) is creating huge demand for data centres.
Companies are building more data centres as the demand for computing power continues to grow. Since these facilities consume large amounts of electricity and internet bandwidth, more supporting infrastructure will be needed. According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), governments and investors are spending billions on AI infrastructure and upgrading power grids. Electricity networks are being expanded to support renewable energy, electric vehicles and AI, while stronger grids are expected to reduce power shortages. Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) continues to scrutinise Reliance Infrastructure after rejecting the company’s settlement request.
The case is linked to the alleged misuse of company funds, although the company has denied any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, Europe’s heatwaves have highlighted the need for stronger infrastructure, as extreme temperatures have affected roads, railways and power systems. Governments are now planning more climate-resilient infrastructure, with greater investment expected in cooling systems and flood protection.
In addition, India and the European Union are discussing digital infrastructure. Indian officials recently met diplomats from 23 European countries to discuss digital public infrastructure, AI and clean energy.
These talks aim to increase cooperation, while ports and logistics projects continue to expand across India. The country is developing its ports and inland waterways, which will allow faster cargo movement and reduce transportation costs. These projects are expected to support exports and trade.
The real estate and infrastructure sectors also remain strong, with new infrastructure projects increasing the demand for housing. Experts say better roads and metro systems are transforming the way cities are connected.
Investors continue to keep a close watch on the sector as the global push for clean energy gathers pace. Countries are building more solar, wind and battery projects, while investments in clean energy continue to rise every year. These efforts are expected to reduce pollution and improve energy security.
