Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Thursday stated that it has secured a humongous order ranging between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 15,000 crore to build the country’s biggest single-cluster AI (Artificial Intelligence) facility, marking the company’s entry into the AI Factory business.
The numbers worth highlighting are the 10,000 NVIDIA B300 GPUs that will power the AI Factory. The 250 MW data centre is planned to have a Phase 1 capacity at Vyoma’s Chennai data centre campus. Moreover, the site has 150 MVA power infrastructure readiness. With a 1 GW long-term vision for the Chennai AI infrastructure site, the project falls under L&T’s classification of a “mega order” worth ₹10,000–15,000 crore.
This is not the confirmed order value, as L&T has not disclosed the exact value.
The key players involved in this mission are Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an infrastructure and engineering company, and L&T’s AI infrastructure arm, Vyoma.AI, L&T’s AI and data centre business. The facility will power a US-based AI cloud platform with the help of B300 GPU technology.
AI is becoming a physical infrastructure requirement as demand is shifting from conventional data centres towards AI-ready data centres. GPU infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as India develops hyperscale AI data centres. Data centres are evolving into AI Factories designed specifically for training, fine-tuning and inference. Moreover, it will create demand for supporting infrastructure such as power, cooling, networking and storage, while also helping connect India’s data centre industry with the global AI economy.
For India, the upcoming data centre means a stronger domestic AI ecosystem and a greater ability to support large AI workloads, with the potential to become a global AI infrastructure hub. With this, India can also advance the development of digital infrastructure.
For AI companies, this means access to large-scale GPU computing, faster deployment of AI workloads, high-performance networking and storage, and scalable infrastructure.
For L&T, it expands beyond traditional infrastructure into AI infrastructure and builds a new business around AI data centres, GPUaaS and managed AI platforms. Moreover, it strengthens its position in the emerging AI infrastructure market.
