India’s competition to become a global hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure is gathering pace, with Karnataka preparing a comprehensive Data Centre Policy aimed at supporting next generation AI workloads and strengthening the country’s digital economy. The proposed policy is expected to provide a fresh framework for land allocation, reliable power supply, data security and investment support, reinforcing Bengaluru’s position as India’s leading technology ecosystem.
The initiative comes at a time when demand for AI computing capacity is rising sharply across sectors including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, e-commerce and public services. As enterprises increasingly deploy large language models, cloud applications and advanced analytics, the need for high performance data centres has become a critical part of national infrastructure.
According to reports, Karnataka’s new policy is designed to create an investor friendly ecosystem by addressing the practical requirements of data centre developers.
