Cabinet Clears ₹7,780 Crore Greenfield Highway Linking Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with Noida International Airport

The Union Cabinet has approved the revised cost estimate for the greenfield highway connecting the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with Noida International Airport (Jewar), paving the way for faster access from Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad to India’s newest international aviation hub. The project, now estimated at ₹7,780 crore, is expected to become one of the most strategically important road links in the National Capital Region as airport operations gather pace.

The 31.42 km access-controlled corridor will provide a direct connection between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway spur and Noida International Airport. Around 11 km of the route will be elevated, enabling uninterrupted movement while reducing congestion on existing regional roads. The highway will pass through parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, creating a seamless transport corridor for passenger and cargo traffic.

The new link is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters travelling from South Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad and neighbouring regions to the airport. At present, travellers often depend on congested city roads before joining the Yamuna Expressway. Once completed, the greenfield corridor will offer a faster and more efficient alternative, strengthening multi-modal connectivity across the NCR.

The project is equally important from a logistics perspective. Noida International Airport is being developed as a major cargo and passenger gateway, and improved highway connectivity will support the movement of goods between industrial clusters, warehouses, logistics parks and export hubs. Manufacturers operating in western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan are expected to benefit from quicker freight movement and lower transportation costs.

Construction of the corridor will generate substantial demand for engineering services, bridge construction, earthworks, concrete structures, steel, aggregates and advanced road-building equipment. The elevated sections, interchanges and associated infrastructure will also create opportunities for contractors, consultants and material suppliers involved in large-scale transport projects.

Real estate experts believe the highway will further accelerate development around the airport region. The Jewar corridor has already attracted investments in industrial parks, logistics hubs, electronics manufacturing, data centres and residential townships. Better road connectivity is expected to strengthen investor confidence while improving accessibility to upcoming commercial districts.

The project also complements the government’s integrated infrastructure strategy under PM GatiShakti by connecting expressways, airports and industrial corridors into a unified transport network. Such infrastructure investments improve supply chain efficiency while supporting regional economic growth and employment generation.

For the construction sector, the greenfield highway represents another milestone in India’s expanding expressway network. Modern access-controlled corridors are increasingly becoming essential for supporting high-value infrastructure assets such as airports, logistics parks and manufacturing clusters.

Once operational, the new highway is expected to transform access to Noida International Airport, making it easier for passengers, businesses and cargo operators to reach one of India’s most ambitious aviation projects. Together with ongoing metro, rail and industrial developments in the region, the corridor is set to reinforce the airport’s role as a major economic gateway for northern India.
