The FASTag Annual Pass offers Indian motorists another way to pay toll charges on national highways. Instead of paying separate toll fees for every journey, eligible private vehicle owners can pay a one-time amount for a fixed number of toll crossings.
For the financial year 2026–27, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set the Annual Pass fee at ₹3,075. The pass is valid for one year or 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever comes first.
However, the Annual Pass is not suitable for every motorist. Understanding the difference between the Annual Pass and a regular FASTag can help vehicle owners decide which option fits their travel needs.
What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid digital toll facility for eligible non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans. It works through an existing FASTag linked to the vehicle’s registration number.
According to NHAI, the pass covers eligible National Highway and National Expressway toll plazas. It allows up to 200 crossings or one year of use, whichever limit is reached first.
The pass is optional. Motorists who do not purchase it can continue using their regular FASTag and pay toll charges as they travel.
FASTag Annual Pass vs Regular FASTag
A regular FASTag deducts the applicable toll fee from the linked account or wallet whenever the vehicle passes through a toll plaza.
The Annual Pass works differently. Eligible users make a one-time payment of ₹3,075 for 2026–27 and receive the benefit of up to 200 eligible crossings during the validity period.
Regular FASTag payments depend on the toll rates at the plazas used. The Annual Pass offers more predictable costs for people who frequently travel on covered routes.
However, the Annual Pass does not cover every road or toll facility in India. Motorists should check the official list of eligible plazas before purchasing it.
Who Is Eligible for the Annual Pass?
The pass is available for eligible non-commercial vehicles with a valid registration certificate and a functional FASTag attached to the windscreen.
The FASTag must be linked to the vehicle’s registration number. Blacklisted or hotlisted tags are not eligible, and the pass cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Users should check the official Rajmargyatra website or app to confirm eligibility and complete the payment.
How Much Can You Save?
The value of the Annual Pass depends on how frequently you travel and the toll charges you would otherwise pay.
For example, a motorist who regularly crosses several eligible toll plazas may benefit more than someone who uses national highways only a few times each year.
Before purchasing the pass, estimate your usual toll expenses and compare them with the ₹3,075 fee. Remember that 200 crossings are counted individually at point-based toll plazas, so a return journey through the same plaza generally counts as two crossings.
Unused crossings do not carry forward after the validity period ends.
How Can You Buy the Annual Pass?
Motorists can use the official Rajmargyatra app or NHAI website to check eligibility and make the one-time payment. The pass is linked to the existing FASTag, so a separate physical tag is generally not required.
Check the vehicle details carefully before paying. Users should also retain payment confirmation and contact the official support channel if the pass is not activated.
Which Option Should You Choose?
The regular FASTag remains practical for occasional travellers who prefer paying toll charges as they go. The Annual Pass may suit private vehicle owners who frequently use eligible national highways and expressways.
The best option depends on your travel pattern, eligible routes and expected toll expenses. Checking these details before paying can help you make a more informed decision.
