Uttar Pradesh is moving ahead with plans to expand its expressway network through four proposed link expressways involving an estimated investment of ₹29,000 crore. The projects are intended to improve connectivity between existing highways, emerging economic centres and important regional destinations.
According to reporting published on 22 October, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has begun the process of appointing independent engineers to monitor the projects. The proposed links are expected to be developed over the next two to three years, although actual completion will depend on construction progress, approvals and other implementation requirements.&x20;
Which four expressways are planned?
The four projects identified in the report are:
- Agra-Lucknow Expressway–Purvanchal Expressway link: Intended to improve connectivity between existing expressway corridors and strengthen access across the state.
- Bundelkhand–Jhansi link: Expected to improve regional connectivity in the Bundelkhand area and support access to industrial and commercial centres.
- Jewar link expressway: Intended to improve road access to the Jewar region, where Noida International Airport is expected to play an important role in the development of logistics and business activity.
- Farrukhabad link expressway: Planned to improve connectivity in central Uttar Pradesh and strengthen links with the wider road network.
The proposed investment and routes make the projects relevant to infrastructure companies, logistics operators, industrial developers and businesses evaluating locations in Uttar Pradesh. However, the precise benefits will depend on the final alignments, junctions, construction schedules and links to existing transport infrastructure.
What could the projects mean for real estate and industry?
Expressways can reduce travel times between cities, industrial areas and distribution centres. Better road connectivity can make previously less-accessible locations more attractive for warehouses, manufacturing facilities and commercial development.
The Jewar link is particularly relevant to businesses assessing the wider ecosystem around Noida International Airport. Improved road access could support cargo movement, supplier networks and employment centres. Similarly, better connectivity in Bundelkhand could improve access to regional markets, provided the roads connect effectively with industrial clusters and local transport networks.
For the property market, however, an announced road project does not automatically translate into higher land values or guaranteed returns. Investors should examine the confirmed alignment, distance from proposed interchanges, land-use permissions, infrastructure availability and actual construction progress.
What happens next?
The appointment of independent engineers is an important implementation step because monitoring can help authorities assess construction quality, timelines and compliance with project requirements. The next milestones to watch include tendering, contractor appointments, approvals, land acquisition where applicable and the start of physical construction.
For now, the ₹29,000-crore programme represents a significant planned expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s transport network. Its long-term impact will depend on timely delivery and how effectively the new links connect communities, industrial areas and existing expressways.
Editorial note: Treat ₹29,000 crore and the two-to-three-year timeline as reported project details, not proof that the full investment has already been spent or that all four roads are under construction.
