Indian Railways Unveils Reforms to Cut Logistics Costs and Boost Private Investment

Indian Railways has announced a series of reforms aimed at making freight movement faster, cleaner and more business friendly. The measures are expected to reduce logistics costs, encourage greater private sector participation and strengthen India’s supply chain network.

The reforms include the launch of a unified all India licence for container train operators, specialised covered containers for transporting fly ash, stricter norms for railway project contractors and a digital platform to streamline railway land management. To simplify land-related processes, Indian Railways is also strengthening its Rail Bhoomi digital portal. The platform will integrate with various railway applications, allowing departments to exchange information more efficiently and making land acquisition and project approvals quicker.
